KOREAN organizations supported by KUMSN
In 2007 and 2008 the Korean Unwed Mothers Support Network provided grants to organizations in Korea to achieve its goals. Currently, there are many more women needing help than there are organizations, facilities and financial resources available to help them.

An organization with a long history of supporting Korean women to enable them to make choices. The KUMSN grant helped launch a website for unwed mothers, supports counseling for them, and recently supported the opening of a community based center providing a variety of programs for unwed mothers and fathers.

This is an important network of women’s organizations in Korea. In Fall, 2007, grant money enabled the KWAU to organize the first ever rally for single mothers in Korea. Over 500 mothers and their children attended.

The premiere Korean public women’s research institute, KWDI conducted the first-ever research study to estimate the numbers and demographics of unwed mothers in Korea and has hosted a series of forums addressing various aspects of the situation and needs of unwed moms, adoption and other related topics.

KWWA works on behalf of all working women. Recognizing that many poor working women are single mothers, they have focused on developing projects to support single mothers including day care, training and self-help groups in ten Korean cities.

A twelve-city self-help organization focused solely on the needs of single mothers. The KUMSN grant provided funds for moms throughout Korea to attend the rally in Seoul, provide training to peer counselors to work with unwed moms, and helped strengthen the network.
