Eastern Social Welfare Society (ESWS) operates in Seoul and was founded in 1972 by the devoted Christian Dr. Duk Whang Kim. The organization has since found homes for thousands of Korean children in the United States and Australia and reflects Dr. Kim’s Christian values. As stated on their website, “The purpose of our agency is to make a contribution to our society by providing various welfare services to the less fortunate.”

This report contains information concerning my own adoption from Korea and the two unwed mothers I interviewed in Seoul. The names of the birth mothers have been changed in order to protect their identities. Interviews were conducted with the help of a translator from Global Overseas Adoption Link (GOAL) and a social worker from Sharon’s Home.
