KUMSN Newsletter

News about KUMSN and the new leap forward we are preparing for

[June Newsletter of KUMSN (Vol.8.5)] 한/미/모/네 소식지
We thank all of you who have given your interest and support to the activities of the Korean Unwed Mothers Support Network.

In March 2003, Dr. Richard Boas founded the Korean Unwed Mothers Support Network under the slogan, "All the mothers have the right to raise their own children," and with the intent to support a variety of projects that would improve perception of unwed mothers in Korea. In order to create this kind of society, we have made every effort to change negative perceptions of unwed mothers, and further, to make known the difficulties that they face living in Korean society in order to increase the financial, political, and social chances of unwed mothers and their children, to educate about the need for social support of unwed-mother families, and to actively discuss and promote their cause. This past April, these services were recognized as Dr. Boas was given a plaque of appreciation by the head of the Ministry of Gender Equality and Family and the Korea Foundation for Women.

Now, in accordance with Dr. Boas' wishes, we intend to go on and resolve the issue of unwed mothers in our society by ourselves. With the enthusiastic and affectionate interest and encouragement of many people, KUMSN now stands in front of its inaugural meeting to become a Korean Sadanpupin NGO.
In the future, KUMSN will abolish social prejudice against unwed mothers, advocate for their rights and interests, and create a society in which they can live as proud members. We hope to travel on that beautiful path with all of you.

Will you join hands with us?
